    Default Ky lake conditions!

    Hello guys,

I was wondering what the current lake conditions are on the north end of the lake from Jonathan creek up? Also wondering with the recent cold snap if there had been a shad kill? I have not fished the north end Of the lake in about 5 years, but recently purchased a camper already set up in a campground on Jonathan creek. So I hope to get back into fishing that area this year.

Looking to start building some crappie beds with cedar trees. Does anyone know if there are any restrictions in these areas or the proper folks to contact for permission to put this cover out? Thanks in advance for any information or advice you can share.

    Kevin

If you are bringing the trees from some place other than cutting them on the banks, you will be fine. Keep them deep enough to not be a navigation hazard and the authorities will look the other way. I wouldn't try to notify anybody, you would probably just confuse most of them with your request.

Word of advice, if you want to fish the beds you put in without having to wait in line for them, I would put them somewhere else besides Jonathan Creek. Pick yourself an out of the way cove or drop on LBL side or in one of the smaller coves on the west side. Your chances of it not becoming a public hole are much greater. Anything put in will eventually become public knowledge, it will just take longer somewhere besides the major bays.

As for current conditions, lots of the bays are frozen a good ways back.

I hear Little Jonathan is Froze in and the ramp is unusable. Most of the bays are froze.

There was a GOOD shad kill.

    What campground you in?

    Mr.Dux, Whiskers,

Thanks for the information on the bays. The cedar I plan on putting out I will be bringing from home, I know what you mean about the spring crowds in Jonathan creek. Sometimes it looks like you could walk from boat to boat. I need to look at the maps and see which ramps would be best to take cover to on the LBL side of the lake.

    Wiskers,
I will be at Lakeside Campground this year. Not sure if the owner is your friend that you spoke of but he seems like a real nice guy. I look forward to being able to spend more time on the water this year.

Yep. Johnny and his wife just bought the place last fall. Great couple.

I will be moving there this fall.

Right now would be a scary time to be running very fast on KY Lake. Once that ices starts breaking up, large sheets of it are often pulled by current out to the mouths of the bays or the main lake.

Several years ago I hit a sheet of ice that was about an inch thick but probably 50 yards across just south of Kenlake. It was covered by a thin layer of water and did not show up. I thought there were ducks sitting on the water but it ended up being a bunch of duck decoys that were frozen into the ice. Hitting a sheet of ice going 40 mph does wonders for the gel coat on a boat. Thank goodness it was a Skeeter Wrangler HP150 and built like a tank. Got some free decoys out of the deal.

    Thanks guys,
I,m not a very lucky person so you probably save me sometime and money. I will just try to wait and do this a little later, after looking for some possible spots on the map. I look forward to meeting some CC.com folks this year. In the past my job always seemed to have me traveling ever time Whiskers & company had a shin dig.

    Thanks

We stayed in lakeside 2 nights when our pres shut down lbl. Sorry you know what even locked the outhouses in LBL. That was just wrong! But the people in lakeside were real nice and accomadating. I usually fish lbl side but we had an enjoyable time in Jonathan.
