Hey guys, hope all is well. We're in the middle of a sucky winter here in the Louisville area...I'm dreaming of our fishing trips! Anyway, we're going to make two trips to Barkley this spring, one for crappie and one for shellcrackers.
I'm not good at crappie and was hoping to hit them in full spawn mode. My five year old is on spring break the first week or so of April, do you think I could hit them good that week?
My favorite trip of the year is right after that, leaving Derby Day for the big shellcracker trip and I'm fired up for that trip!! I wonder if you guys are as sick of this stupid winter as I am??

I'm heading down last week of March to the Cypress creek and blood river area for a few days during my son's spring break. I have never be to KY lake and I'm not that great at crappie either. I've been trying to learn as much as I can. I think time will tell where the crappie are and the best thing to do is come here and find out as it gets near your trip time. I would also suggest reading this: http://www.***************/crappie/k...rappie-project
Guess it will not allow that link. Search for crappie 101 Ky lake study
i was just sitting here trying to plan out when we will head to Barkley, last year we went donw the weekend after easter, and fishing wasnt to bad, thought about the same time frame this year but it is so hard to say. my thoughts are 2nd week of april.
Everything depends on the weather. Historically the Blacks are doing it by then and the Whites won't be far behind. Again... Historically.
Regardless, I'd bet ya money you could spider rig or long line troll, close to spawning areas and catch fish.
