Smile Beauty of a day on Barren

Yesterday, Tuesday, had a chance to take my neighbor and his wife out on Barren River Lake and show them a few of my spots. The weather was gorgeous, a bit breezy but doable. We fished the bridge pilings, water tower, the bluffs, and wound up fishing some standing timbers in Hurricane Creek where we had our day come to a perfect end. We worked our way to the back of the bay with trolling motor and the plan was to work our way out fishing the timbers with long rods and minnows. About half way back, my neighbor said, what's that in the water? I look up, squinting through my cataracts and low and behold, an OTTER! And another! They swam toward the shore and got out on the bank, and went up over the hill. We sat in silence and watched as I looked around for my phone to get a picture, then discovered that i'd let it in my car. Well atleast I still have the memory. What an adventure!
Everything is possible. The impossible just takes longer!

Otters are a beautiful and fascinating creature. I have mounted several including a couple of white ones. The little suckers do stink with musk glands like many other water mammals. You just don't want to let one set up housekeeping in a farm pond. They will clean out a fish population in no time.

You are correct. Last summer when it was dry I had two come up from the watershed to my upper pond which is fed from a well and cleaned out all my hybrid bluegill. Fun to watch but devastating to the fish population.
