Default First post from Lake Cumberland

Hello to all my Crappie.com friends. As some of you know, I just recently moved to Somerset on beautiful Lake Cumberland. Had my first chance to sample the crappie fishing this past Friday morning for about two hours. Ended up with 12 nice crappie caught from the flooded trees. Caught the fish about 11 feet deep in 20 to 25 feet of water. Man o man, there are tons of new growth trees and cover standing in or near very deep water. I predict that this lake is going to be a booming place for crappie in the years to come! Do any of you Lake Cumberland guys know of places selling minnows around Somerset? I'd like to try tipping my jigs with minnows and see what happens.

The (spinoff) Backwaters bait & tackle shop, here in LEX, carries live bait ... so I'd think that the Backwaters LLC Bait Shop near Somerset would, too.

Some Marina's may also carry minnows, too. ... it's been quite a while since I've been on Cumberland.

Congrats on the catch !! I may have to come visit LC, now that it's getting filled back up ... so keep the reports coming

    ... cp

you think there is alot of growth now. just wait until next year when they raise it up another 20 foot. and you are probably right about years to come be good for the crappie. maybe 10 years before it is good fishing again. i still hope the dam starts leaking and they have to let the water come back down to where it has been for the pass 10 years.

Hey kyfishman, If you make it to Burksville check out Chuck at Stranges Bait Shop. Good info on the river and ramp access. I think I am going soon to fish the river. Good trout fishing. Good luck on Cumberland. Big and deep.
