I use a dropshot rig. Weight 1/8oz pencil weight and a #8 cricket hook with a redworm about 8" above the weight. You will wear them out.

Can't wait we're coming down on 5/12 for a week I love catching them redear!! We fish Barkley I throw crawlers on the bottom last year got a lot around the wood/stake beds!! Also there a bait shop down there that sells them jigs on them YouTube videos the I tip with a peace of worm that works good to!
Listen to Indyfisherman, he's got some killer photos to prove his worth. I'm going down 5/5, a week earlier than you and kind of wish I had waited another week until the 12th like you. I'm just hoping for some decent action that sees us catch lots of redear which is what I mainly target. This will be the first time down for my family, we're staying at Barkley's Buzzard Rock Marina which is on the Northern end. I'll give a full report when I come home on the 12th. I've always used long shank #4 hooks, with redworms as the bait of choice because I've never had great success with nightcrawlers like many people claim. I've never used any type of jig either, we'll see.
I too will be heading down there on the 4th. I've received some great reports from last couple weeks of ears and gills ar Big Sandy so hopefully things will turn on at Johnathon Creek. Good luxk to my fellow hoosiers
I like a grizzly jig with a orange head ,get these after the gill have torn the feathers off.
Great tip! I had a buddy tell me that a few years ago they had to wait until a couple of guys moved their boat because they were catching bluegill on the bank. When they left, they threw where they had been sitting an caught a bunch of big redear.Quote:
