Guys I want to start a cane thicket like we used to have in Kentucky. This is the scientific and common name of what I'm looking for.
Arundinaria gigantea
Common Name: River Cane or Canebreak bamboo
I have 50 acres of river bottom land and a 5 acre slough and want to plant some on a levy and anywhere else it might grow. I want it for many reasons.
1. habitat
2. old fashion cane fishing poles for my kids
3. to make fishing structures
I am open to other species of bamboo only if it is a native American species. I do not want to let loose something that can hurt the environment.
Any information would be great!!
Thanks but they only offer it in bulk and it will cost about $200. I was hoping more along the lines of $50-$100
Any Western KY fella's got some good old fashion River Cane that I can get a start off of??? Anywhere between Owensboro Ky and KY lake. I'll come dig it. You will be welcome to use anything I can grow once it is established.
Take 94c towards Murray and there's a bunch of it growing on a strip of state land next to Clark's River. I've got a stand of it on my lease just a mile or so upriver of it that you could have some of as well but the ground will have to dry out a bunch before you could drive in there to get it.
Where is the Clark's river? I live in Murray and I am looking for some as well.

Thanks Quack, I might take you up on the location. I might have a lead closer to home. Hope to hear something soon.
