Thumbs up Humminbird AS GPS HS Antenna Review.

I had a chance to get out on the water the other day with my new Humminbird AS GPS HS Antenna.

I installed it to try and correct the jumpy GPS on my 788 HD DI. I just got the 788 back out of the shop. That's another story all together and I'll not go into that right now.

For all you Humminbird Donut HATERS out there... This is the cure! This antenna completely eliminates the Donut! Your boat icon on the chart will always be oriented in the right direction. There is no more "chart jumping!" It makes it twice as easy to go to your waypoints and that translates into more time with a hook in the water!

There is 1 flaw that Rickie pointed out in one of his posts. The speed is off by about .3 mph. When you are showing .5 MPG you are really going about .8 MPH. I believe after you get above 1 MPH the problem corrects itself.

Now most of you may not think this is a BIG deal, but if you are a Spider Rigger or Long Liner that .3 MPH can be the difference between catch'n and just fish'n. As long as you are aware of it you can compensate for it though. I believe that HB will eventually remedy this problem with a software update.

Other than this 1 issue I believe this Antenna is a MUST HAVE if you are a humminbird owner.

    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

I've spider rigged enough at 0.4mph to know what 0.4mph "feels" like...

I now keep my speed on the AS GPS HS at 0.2mph to get the same forward boat speed as with the AS GRHA...

Just wondering doesnt that gps puck hook into the same port on the depth finder as the ethernet connection. I am starting to have the same problems with my 788 HD showing my boat headed for dry ground when I'm not even moving. The only thing is I have mine linked with ethernet cable to 898 and have actually come to really like that set up over the last few weeks and would hate to lose that option.
