Default A Really Good Crappie Trip To Kentucky

I would like to make a really nice crappie trip to Kentucky this spring. I have heard so much good about it I feel I must try it. I will be coming from Pittsburgh Pa. so it will be a bit of a trip. Any suggestions for the best lake, best time of the year. I will have my wife with me who does not fish but loves to hang out at the lakefront to read and knit. A really nice place to stay, easy launching and docking. Does not have to be a real big lake. Just a nice place to relax and catch a few really nice size crappie. I am 70 and have a little trouble getting around [ bad knees ] so I do not need much excitement or anything too challenging !!!! Thanks for any good tips you can give.

    Zinger

I would suggest Moors Resort, its on the lake, good covered dock, big lanuching ramp, cabins or lodge rooms are lake front, and the resturant is great. I too have a wife that travels with me o nmy fishing adventures and out of all the palces we have been over th eyears, she enjoys the Moors the best. www.moorsresort.com/

    Good luck

    Hi Zinger,

You are likely going to get a ton of different opinions on this question. My suggestion is Kentucky Lake for crappie. I would also suggest Kentucky Dam Marina (State Owned) or The Moors Resort (Private Owned). Good (not steep) ramps and not a lot of hills to walk up and down. I have been down the road with the knees too. They both have restaurants, nice marinas, docks, and extra things to do at or close by the resorts. Best time of year tends to be very late March and the first few weeks of April but that can vary with the weather. Although the big push of crappie are done spawning I like later April and May. There are still some crappie shallow plus a ton of big gills and redears! Anyway that is my suggestion. Good luck and where ever you go have a good time!

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Hey Zinger .. If you haven't fished down here before you might consider spending a day with a guide to get some help with tactics and locations. Randy Kuhens is the owner of Kick-n-Bass Guide Service and is a member here on crappie.com. Bigbaddad is also a member and works with Randy. I think either would do a nice job of getting you headed in the right direction. The website is: Kick'n Bass - Kentucky Lake Fishing Guide

You'll love KY Lake, Moors is good, Sportsman's Lodge is good to fish Jonathan Creek. Several good restaurants close.
