    Default Question about Ky/Barkley Lakes

I live across the Ohio River from Louisville Ky and we've wanted for quite some time now to make our way down to LBL. I don't have a big enough boat or motor to even attempt to get out on those bodies of water with my wife and four year old son.

Do they rent good size boats anywhere around these lakes? If so, how big are the boats/motors that they rent? I like this idea instead of hauling my fourteen foot jon boat with small motor.

There is a lot of info here KentuckyLake.Com - Kentucky Lake Lodging, Lake Barkley Lodging and here Kentucky Lake Area Accommodations & Lodging. Moores used to rent aluminum boats, but I don't know if they still do.

Shawnee Bay on KY Lake in Benton rents bigger boats. 17 ft. deep Vs, not sure about motor size.

Just a thought but have you thought about getting a guide? And yes I guide just not now because I have a persistent back problem. For a decent bass style boat you may pay $200 for the day plus fuel and often the boats aren't the newest with good electronics. Most guides run farily new boats, electronis, GPS, etc. If you have never been here and with the lake at winter pool getting a guide would be a safe learning experience and the boat is thrown in with it. But this is just a suggestion. If you rent a boat and aren't real familiar with the lake be careful. You can take a lower unit off real easy!

    Old Guide,
Do you guide for shellcrackers? We're wanting to come down in the spring and target shellcracker. You can send me a message if you'd like. Thanks, Troy.
