Default June 30, July 1 at Green River Lake

I have a buddy coming home on leave from the Marine Corps. After a few tours overseas, he is finally getting some much needed R&R. He has tasked me with providing some relaxing entertainment while he is home.

I would like to take him to Green River and let him experience spider rigging. My question is, have the crappie moved out onto the flats? Is anyone having any success spider rigging Green? If not spider rigging, do any of you have any suggestions? I have always fished for crappie during the spawn, and with limited success spider rigged during the summer months.

Any tips and help is appreciated.

Go out early and spider rig 12 to 14 feet deep on the flats, most people seemed to be trolling jigs with a little additional weight before them, I have been spider rigging jigs and minnows until the minnows die, and just jigs then. I have been catching many little ones with some keepers mixed in - enough to keep a mess for a few dinners. You can't miss the train of boats going back and forth and you should get enough to be busy. Tell him thanks for me.

They aren't fully transitioned onto the flats yet. By the time your friend makes it to the lake they will be in their full-on summer pattern and you guys would do well either spider rigging or tightlining minnows on the larger main lake flats at that point. The shad haven't made it out there in great numbers yet so the crappie won't make it their home until the baitfish arrive. By late July there are usually anywhere from 15 to 30 of us out there during most weekday mornings and even more on some weekends so join the crowd and have fun. Any questions, just ask.

Thanks for the info! I am looking forward to the trip, as is my buddy. He hasn't spider rigged before, and my experience is limited at best. The two trips I made down last year were great outings. Plenty of fish to keep us busy. I don't mind catching the little fellers and pitching them back in. It keeps me entertained.

I will be in a 17 foot camo Triton, with a couple of lost looking guys sitting on the front.
