Exclamation Herrington Lake night fishing .... (Friday night)

My buddy Carl wanted some fish for the freezer, so we decided to head down to Herrington last night. We were primarily intending to "worm fish" for Bass, but also took along a Crappie rod & tackle. Bass weren't in a real cooperative mood ... they'd bite, but weren't holding on for more than a second, so we missed all but one that bit. Carl coaxed a 13" LMB into biting his punkinseed worm, long enough to get a hook in it. We tried a dock with a light on (down close to the water) and I stuck a nice Black Crappie, that proceeded to come unbuttoned at the boat. We hit another lighted dock, and proceeded to nail some nice White Bass. We went back, later in the night, to the first dock we fished ... and I stuck that Black Crappie, again, and put it in the boat !! (I netted it, instead of trying to swing it over the side Rofl )

One dock we fished, we could see Bluegill popping bugs on the surface & chasing tiny Shad and Silversides ... also saw Bass, Crappie, and the occasional large White Bass or Hybrid come busting to the surface, all chasing after these tiny Shad/Silversides. We even dipnetted some, but they were so small/thin/fragile that putting a hook in them was instant death to them They didn't work out, so we went back to casting artificials. I couldn't believe those Silversides we netted were still so small. (I'm talking less than 1" long) I'd have thought they'd be much bigger, by now.

The tally was 4 White Bass, 1 LMB, & 2 Crappie kept ... plus about a dozen or so small White Bass caught & released.

    LMB - about 13" (1.25lbs)
Crappie - one at about 1lb & one at about 3/4lb
White Bass - biggest was about 2lb, the others we kept were around 3/4-1lb.

Filleted'em when we got home, & Carl left with a quart bag full of filets.

Yeah, Chuck ... If I hadn't grown up fishing there, it would probably be low on my list of lakes to fish. As it is, I can still get skunked real quick there, one time ... then bust their fins on the next trip.

Carl hasn't sent me an invite to the fish fry, either Rofl ... fact is, he even mentioned that those fish might be eaten that Sat afternoon so I don't think we're gonna see a invite anytime soon
