Blood River Slabs

I have never fished the Kentucky River Fred. I have crossed it a bunch of times on I-71 and I-75. I also have kin in Estill County. I think it winds right through Irvine. I think the crappie will be spawning the next few weeks and will be shallow. They can be caught shallow but I like other times of the year as well. The lake isn't as crowded.

Nice day on the Blood. I used to have a place at Blood River Campground. Man did I love fishing up in Crappie Hollow on all those stake beds. Good times and good memories. Congrats.

Thanks Double D! I launch at the old Blood River Campground which is now called Waters Edge. At least when the water is deep enough otherwise I head to Wildcat. The owner of Waters Edge, Mic, has done a lot with it. He spent thousands a few year ago trying to dredge a channel for winter pool so we could launch in low water but the floods the last few years have silted it back in. And crappie hollow is still a good place to fish for sure. I will be glad when we get a few more feet of water so I can get way back in the shallows.

Sounds good,so do you think crappie will be close to the banks next week

Maybe but I don't know how good the number will be. A lot has to do with these cold fronts. I believe a good bit of the blacks have spawned. But a good portion of the whites may still be yet to come. It's just hard to tell. One day can be so different from another. For me that is what makes the spawn a tougher time to fish. They can really be effected by the cold fronts when they are shallow. Also the TVA is raising the lake but they are doing it very slowly. I believe as the water rises we will find more crappie, white and black in the newly flooded cover. But there are many variables to all of this. I know thats not much of an answer. Its kinda like the weather man telling you there is a 50% chance of rain tomorrow. That means there is also a 50% chance it won't rain! LOL Guess that works. I predict there is a 50% chance you will find crappie on the banks next week. Of course if they aren't on the banks I am right too. :Hands Clapping

I have a place near Murray and fish the Blood River area most the time. I don't think you have missed it. We might just to have to look a little harder to find it! LOL
