Just trying to find out a little info about crappie and bluegill bite this time of year. Not wanting anybodys exact locations in this area, but dont want to have to run long distance if possible, just a little help on where to find some fish to catch, and also what the best lures maybe or live bait. Also would like some info on places to stay prefer some thing that can sleep six guys and has a kitchen so we can cook are own food. Thanks in advance for any help. The dates I am trying to come down will be april 27-30 most likely. THANKS

    Hey 00
a bunch of us from central indiana have been coming down to ky lake for over 25 years and we have stayed at a lot of the different places. All have been great. We now stay on places on blood river.
When we stayed up by the dam we had a lot of places such as sportsman marinia or the moor's. Most of them have places to cook. There are also houses you can rent. Hope this helps you.

Look into the Big Bear resort they are a sponser of this page.
I have been staying there for a few years now they have several types of cabins to stay at. You can rent a slip and get gas. And there is some good fishing in that area.

Thumbs Up on Big Bear. We been staying there for 6-7 years now. Good fishing within 100 yards of dock. Actually closer than that if you find a couple of the brush piles. Boat slips, cleaning station, gas, food, bait all right there. Just 5-6 miles up the road is a bait shop with a bigger variation of stuff. We usually boat up to Moors for lunch one or two times. Its only 5 minutes away by boat and they have good lunches. Good sweet tea there too. All in all, in Big Bear bay is great fishing. And within a mile radius there is some fantastic fishing. Several other bays and creeks in that area. You can fish all week there and never even reach the main lake. There is enough bays in that area you can usually find a spot out of the wind. USUALLY!
    Good Luck.
Crappie spawning and morels popping up at the same time. What was God thinking when he made that schedule. It's pure torture every spring deciding which to do.

Late April is a good time to come to KY Lake.

Any of the Bays can be good, if you stay up by the Dam, you can easily access the 57,000 acre Barkley Lake also.

The Redear fishing, and Bass fishing is great that time of April also.

When I used to go there, it was usually around that time. Found most of my Crappie around the buckbrush back in the bays & around the stumps & logjams in the pockets in front of Barkley Dam. Long pole w/slip cork & minner at about 1.5-2ft deep was my primary method. That was back when White Crappie were king of the hill ... so I'd read up on this : Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources - Preliminary Results and apply it to whatever area you end up fishing (just in case the Black Crappie are still coming in, or already in, at that time).

Go to this website www.kicknbass.net and go to the links page. Scroll down to "Places to Stay" The resorts that are listed are all owner operated and managed. They are clean and fisherman friendly and are easy on the wallet plus they cater to crappie fishermen. My clients absoluely love staying at any of those places. Each place is different and offers a variety of acccomodations. Some have motel rooms and cottages and others have just cottages. It depends on what your needs are. I can tell you this ... Bad accomodations set the tone for a bad guide trip and these places have a 100% customer satisfaction rating with Kick'n Bass. No complaints, just good comments. Tel'em Kick'n Bass told you to call and you want the Kick'n Bass Suite! Ha! LOL! Good Luck and enjoy your trip to KY Lake

Good to see you posting Randy! Welcome!
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.
