    Default Kentucky Lake this morning.....

Got on the water before daylight and put some beds out then went fishing. Fished until noon, wound up a couple short of the limit but still a pretty nice day. These came from 10-15fow on jigs tipped with nibbles.

Nice catch.. Looks like the white population is doing OK where you were.

I've spent a bunch of hours since the beginning of August on the lake and haven't caught the first keeper black crappie. The way I fish doesn't really lend itself to catching many blacks but you would think I would have caught a few by accident. I'm interested to see what this falls surveys show, there is no telling how many HUNDREDS of 9-9.99" white crappie I've thrown back since August.

Talked to the guys running the fall crappie netting study at the ramp yesterday morning. Said 85 percent black crappie, also said they were netting in shallow water where there probably wouldn't be as many whites. From what they have seen so far it appears the spawn this year at least for the blacks wasn't any good, very few 3" fish.

It is a great lake and you definitely should try it if your close by, but is also a pretty tough lake to fish. Not much in the way of visible cover to fish, you need to be pretty good with your electronics, maps etc. to do well here imo unless you hit it perfect in the spring shallow. Not trying to discourage you but don't expect the crappie to jump in the boat here.

I think the high water the last two years have hurt the black crappie and helped the white crappie. Great idea to put some stuff out every trip out and still do some fishing. I try to, even when it takes away from my fishing trip, I figure it will make a lot of future trips a whole lot better. Very nice bunch of fish!
