Are you sure the cover you saw was not baitballs of shad or minnows? Lots of times in the fall the crappie and bass will follow the minnow schools up into the coves and onto the flats.

Curious if anyone has had much success with crappie on mud flats?
Had a tough day Sunday fishing all my typical spots. Was cruising across a mud flat and seen some stuff on the flasher, threw out a marker
and swung back and fished.
Only good place I found all day, good quality fish and they were biting.
The fish were on some type of cover.

Yeah I've done good on mud flats and if there is some cover it give the fish a place to stack up on. Actually I've fished a few spots like these and they have held up for over 30 years. The best spots seem to be in the 12-20 fow
Yeah it was wooding cover, I was casting and hung the jig in it a couple times. Best I could tell looking at it in detail with the sonar when I picked up the marker is it looked like a small tree or large limb lying on the bottom.
It is in my waypoints now !!
