    Default North Kentucky Lake 3-16-11

Started out this morning fishing shallow 6-10 FOW. Caught two fish in about three hours. Moved out to the end of the creek near the main lake. Caught fish 20 ft deep on the drops and humps where the bottom went from 15 to 24-25 ft. Most of the fish came from water 21-23 ft deep. This afternoon they moved a bit shallower on those same hump and drops and most bites came from 16-18 ft deep in 17-20 FOW. Ended up catching 41 fish. Had several short fish and a few 10 inchers that I put back. Kept a limit of nice fish. Caught on jigs tipped with minnows (orange head/chartreuse)

    Hey KYfishman
Saw the same thing today. 18' seemed to be the number. No fish shallow yet. Still staging up in the main creek drops. Beautiful weather today. A lot of boats out. Most fish I caught were floating sideways in the livewell.Had a few die.Anyone bleed out there air sacks to keep them alive?

Nope, You've got it backwards. Blacks will spawn first. You should be ok on the whites & blacks unless the water really starts heating up fast. We still could have some cold weather.

Really? Glad to hear that! Good news for me that there are still fish that deep with this kinda water! Great! Hands Clapping

Were you marking many baitfish on your depthfinder?

Thanks for the honest info. Sure helps a guy that's been outa touch with the fish for a month!

I did mark baitfish on my depthfinder...and lots of suspended fish from 15 to 22 ft deep out over the deepest water (24-27 ft). I figure a lot of them were crappie coming into the bays and creeks out of the main lake, being moved by both the current being generated and the rising water. I caught very few of the suspended fish, which is not unusual with water conditions and temps like they are. Most every fish I caught were fish that were at least attempting to relate to bottom contours, drops and humps....and would be within 1 or 2 ft of the bottom. Most of the day I found them at 20 ft in 20.5 to 22 ft on my depthfinder. Later in the day, they moved up to 18 ft in 18.5 to 20 ft of water. Today (Thursday) I would expect them to even move a bit shallower...maybe 12 to 14ft...as the temperature slowly rises and the weather improves and the water continues to rise. By the weekend, I would expect many fish to continue a move to shallower locations as temperatures stabilize, the sun shines and the water warms. Of course, then the folks in charge will start dropping the water and CHANGE all that!

This is happening to me a lot also. Is it from bringing fish up to fast ?
What is the best thing to do ? Especially for the ones I let go?
