should work fine as long as you have the same transducer on both boats, thats what I do with my lowrance between the big boat and jon boat, that lets you use the exact same gps spots on both boats too. Im no SI expert though.

I have a question for you all. I have a 798 si mounted on my big boat. I also have a 12 ft. jon boat that I fish out of a lot. The problem is that I'm addicted to side imaging. I'm trying to figure out how I can go back and forth with it. My solution is to buy a extra transducer and a 10 ft. extension cable. My lower unit mount is mounted on a ram mount, this makes it easy to remove. I can put a 12 volt plug on the power wires so I can unplug it. Now I can remove the transducer cable from the mount and install the 10 ft extension cable. This now makes the unit mount portable. Install ram mount ball and transducer on jon boat. Plug in 12 volt and hook up transducer ready to go. I may mount transducer on a board so the whole unit is portable. Any suggestions ??

I just ordered what I needed to use the same unit in the front of mine. You can get a base from W-Mart. You must have internal GPS? I had to order GPS antenna and power cord. I have links if you want to PM or you can use google.

Ordered my parts today from amazon.com. I was surprised they had everything in stock and at a great price. Huminbird website had the transducer for $175 Amazon $133. The 10 ft cable at Huminbird $25 Amazon $20. It pays to shop around.
I do the same thing with a 997 I use a little motorcycle bat. for power, so I dont have to connect to TM bat.

Sounds like you are right on the money Gofish. I have moved my 900 series units around with little trouble. It has locked a time or two when I fired it up after pulling it out of the boat at motels, etc then putting it back in the next morning. I am on Humminbird's pro staff and checked with them. It is basically a computer processor and from time to time it requires a reboot like a home PC. I just worry at tournaments when it pulls that and I think "What will I do without my sidescan!" It is like a cellphone. I didn't have one a few years ago and I can't imagine being without it now.
