Crappie Fishing on Barkley Lake

I just started crappie fishing a couple years ago. I fish on Barkley Lake in the Eddycreek and Kuttawa area. I havent had very good luck finding fish. Can anyone on here point me in the right direction. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You're fish'n a good area. I have caught a lot of fish over there. Eddy creek has it all. Drops, flats, deep water, shallow water, stumps, blow downs, chunk rock, pea gravel points, road beds, docks, brush piles, stake beds... Don't get much better than that!

Sounds like you've got 1 of 2 problems. You're either not fishing where the fish are or you're on fish but not using the right presentation.

How do you fish? What do you look for? What kinda water are you fish'n right now?

Crappie will be moving up over the next few weeks and by the end of the month they could be in as little as 2 foot of water or less. What's good today may not be any good in another week. Look where you see the majority of boats sitting in one spot and chances are you've found a good crappie area. Do not move directly on top of them but go thru those areas after they leave and you'll pick up some clues as to how deep they are, what was the water temp, and if they are catching them off drops, brush, stakebeds, etc.

Most crappie fishermen are pretty good guys who will help you as long as you aren't trying to move in and steal their spots. Just ask a couple of them what they are catching their fish on, minnows, jigs, & how they are fishing it. One color may work well one day and the next day they are wanting something else. A lot of us have our preferences for how we like to fish so be careful you don't limit yourself to just one or two.

A dropoff with brush on it is usually always a good place to start. There's tons of questions to ask but just get with a few experienced fishermen and ask questions. Most will be glad to help. Some may even be willing to fish with you and show you a couple of techniques you can try.

Most long lining 1/32 oz jigs WITH 2" Southern pro's at .9 to1 mph.


Big Crappie,Sheelcrackers,20 ,,30,12 to 14 " Bass no keepers ,2 -5lb cats,,and a lot of Bluegill.

Oh and it looked like some people were doin better ..........

Whiskers, I havent had a chance to get out yet this year, but i plan to go this weekend. I havent had any luck at all casting jigs. I usually pick up a few fish spiderrigging in 10' of water just off of the pea gravel banks. 2 yrs ago i put out some pvc fish attractors in 8-10 ft of water, and have never caught a fish off of them. I have been doing some studying and I think my main problem is that I am fishing the wrong spots at the wrong time of the year.

It is suposed to rain again this weekend. I am presently on the Cumberland river & she is HOT! River's up & lake is too.

You ever fish buzzard rock marina (Poplar Creek)? Get in there & find ya some brush in 10 to 15' of water. I would also check the shallow stuff on up in the day. Fish that brush top to bottom! I bet there will be blacks caught this weekend in 5' of water.

If you spider rig EC check the backside of the road. Try a pass about 150' off the road. troll from the gap up the road for about 1000' & then back. Set you baits from 7' to 12' & see what that does. Check those shallow stake beds & blowdowns with a jig & minnow under a bobber anywhere from 5 to 2' deep.

She may be muddy.
