Default Picture of blood river from Wildcat ramp...How long will it take to melt?

Was bored today so I rode to the ramp at wildcat and took a couple of pictures. A couple of pieces of ice that were sticking up looked to be around 2 inches thick. I know the weathers moving in the right direction...but how long will this take to melt to make it safe?

warmer weather is on the way but I'm guessing it will still take several days. Boat traffic or wind that creates a little wave action will make it happen that much quicker. Cabin fever is getting us all. Probably still a week & a half in areas with ice before we see crappie start to get after it. Hopefully when spring gets here, it will stay.

I would think there would be northern banks there at ky lake ice free. I saw open areas up here in Southern IN this week before the last cold snap.

    Cool

You'll be surprised at how fast it will leave. I would be surprised if it's there Tuesday.

Was thinking the same thing. Was out a couple of weeks ago and the ramp was wide open. I turned the point and a solid sheet of ice (not very thick). Rode around for a couple of hours and then went back and it was already gone.

On the river we call it sink'n. You can have a river full of big chunk ice 1 day, get a couple of sunny warm days & it's gone. This thin stuff will leave quick.

Like I said, if there's any ice left Tues. I'll be surprised.

What is not safe about it? Go slow and use the weight of the boat to bust the ice till you get out to open water.

Had to bust ice 50% of my duck hunting trips this year. Not fun but not a big deal either.

The touble you run into is launching. I launched at Ky Dam Marina a few years ago & tore up a $200 SI transducer & $80 worth of LED trailer lights. Doh

That ice is tuff on gel coat too.

Plus it's hard to drop a jig thru 2" of ice.

    Thinks I'll wait.

Right across the cove is where I used to have a place, at Blood River Campground. Man did I love it over there. KY Lake is sweet.
