    Default jig poles

Any place around central Ky to buy BnM or other jig poles ?
I prefer to "feel" the rod so rather not mail order.

Only place I know where you might find something you like is BPS.

Did you make it to Green today?

I know what you mean about feeling them and seeing what fits you.
Be sure and try the Sam Heaton 11' rods they are light and have alot of backbone.
    Super light also..
Take you kids fishing today!!! They will be grown (and married and have children of their on) tomorrow. Then you can take your GRANDKIDS!

    Exclamation colayn ....

If you're talking "Lexington" as central KY ... you're best bet would be Sportsmans Whse. Sportsman's Warehouse - Google Maps

Their webpage advertises BnM rods, so I'd imagine they have them in stock in any of their stores.

I've only seen a couple of BnM rods at Backwaters Outfitters, and that was before they moved into a smaller store (a couple of years ago). One was a 10' spinning rod, and the other was the Duckworth 8' FnF rod. I don't think either of those are what you're looking for, if you're looking for a vertical jigging rod.

Otherwise, I'd look at local tackle shops ... especially those affiliated with BPS ... and call around and ask if they happen to have BnM rods on the shelf. Somewhere like Backwater's, in Somerset, may be a big enough dealer to carry them.

Thanks guys. Yes Lexington is good, I travel thru Lexington every Tues. for my job
Want to get a jig pole for my 12 year old son. He is a lot more interested in fishing after introducing him to minnows. I am kinda odd, in the crappie world and like to cast jigs all the time
I did go to Green yesterday. Had a hard time (casting jigs) The water still looked funky from the turn over, only could fish limited areas due to the wind.
Several short fish, only 9 keepers. All on cover in 15 to 20 fow.
The only "balls" of bait seen were in the back of the creeks.
Seems odd for this time of year

Since we have had such warm weather over most of the last two months .... I think the baitfish, and fish in general, are still on a early Fall pattern (about a month behind schedule). Although, I am used to Shad schools being in the backs of creeks/bays in early to mid Nov (in E. Tenn), as we used to find them there, years ago, when we were Bass fishing @ Watts Bar Lake, TN.

Found that out the hard way .... fishing Watts Bar in late Oct (normally a Black Crappie/dock shooting time). Didn't do well. Then a friend of mine (DonG) & his partner went down, middle of last week, and found a brushpile on a channel edge / ~ 20 fow ... and caught over 25 slabs (some over 2lbs). Fish were tight to the brush, if not "down in" the brush, @ 18-19' deep. I'm of the opinion that, since the weather has been so warm, so long, and the lake is being dropped to Winter Pool ... the Crappie never made the run into the creeks, like they normally would, and just stayed out deep. I suspect the turnover, & lack of any substantial rain, has kept the GRL Crappie in a similar pattern.

You ain't "odd", in my book :p .... I prefer to sling jigs, over any other method, too. :D I'll resort to minnows, and other fishing methods ... only "when I HAVE to"

You gonna teach the boy to "vertical jig" with that rod, or rig him up with a minner/cork
Take a look at the Sam Heaton 7' rod (if they have one) ... I think he'd be able to manage it quite well. Light weight, soft action (but still enough backbone). Maybe match it up with a Shimano IX1000 ... and he'll have a decent outfit, for under $70.

I have a Sam Heaton 7' Signature Series rod, paired with a Mitchell Spidercast spinning reel .. that I used to use as my primary jig casting outfit. It is a great little outfit, and I enjoy fishing with it.

If you want to go cheaper ... consider a 7' Berkley Cherrywood M action spinning rod & a Mitchell Avocet 500. You can probably get this outfit for around $45.

    Thanks guys for the info.
Yes, I want to get him an out fit so he can vertical jig. Once I started him doing that Monday he caught 3 fish and it changed his world. I think he actually wants to go back !!! Problem was the high wind and I didn't have an anchor so the boat kept blowing in on the cover. I would get him close enough to fish it and then they would spook.
I'm either going back to Green or Nolin this weekend. Will post results.
    Happy Thanksgiving to all
