    Default Smithland Pool Report

Took my Dad to the river yesterday to catch a few crappie. The water was 52 degrees with a real nice color in the creeks. The weather was light winds and clear skies (high pressure). We used emerald shiners in 5-8 ft of water. The bite was fairly light due to the high pressure, but we still managed to catch a nice mess. Total was 18 keeper crappie from 10-14 inches.

This is a pic of my boy with a nice bass. We only caught 5 keeper crappie this day, but the bass were biting good. Probably caught 35-40 bass from 1-3 lbs. This bite will probably end fairly soon with the colder water temps in the creeks.

Some of the better creeks are Bayou, Bay, Lusk and Grand Pier. Lusk creek actually runs through Golconda.

It's starting to pick up in the Meldahl pool also. I had 13 keeper crappie (All over 10 in with a couple over 13) 6 bluegill & 2 bass. Minnows and slip bobbers in 5 to 9ft deep water at 56 deg. Only found fish in 2 spots, but they were stacked in those. A great day to be fishing.
