Default Baitfish at Egner's Ferry Bridge

I noticed while fishin for catfish at Egner's Ferrry Bridge the other day that the baitfish around the pilings were schoolin in the bejillions.....during the day...

Catfishin was fair...better on days that TVA was pullin more water....

I tried some "rooster tailing" for white bass with no luck....

With this many baitfish around the pilings...shouldn't the crappie be around there somewhere also...??

I would think that all those baitfish, that have been there for a couple months, would draw all types of fish. Have heard some daytime fishing there from excellent to horrible. Nights dried up on me a while ago. May try again this weekend. As for crappies I have no idea.

"those" baitfish are there :p ... but, there's probably thousands of other schools of baitfish, scattered all over the place, and the Crappie may be following THEM and not the ones around the bridge

They may have just not been "on" those baitfish, when you were there .... or perhaps they were there, and there were too many baitfish for them to see your offering ... or their bellies were already full :p

Wasn't really fishin for crappie that day...mostly for catfish and then tried for the white bass....

I was just kinda thinking about the oodles of baitfish ...how would one go about actually "targeting" crappie in that many baitfish...

It's not like any one piling is any different from the other 100 or so pilings at Egner's Ferry bridge that the crappie would key on....

Wink IF crappie were there .... IMHO ...

... they'd have most likely been suspended below the bottom of the baitfish school, so your Rooster Tail method should have produced "something".

If there was little to no current, they could have been to the outside of the baitfish school, or even a little ways off from there. If there was current, the Crappie would have been on the down current side of the pilings, or above/below the cross beams of the pilings ... out of the current, and in the eddy water.

They are in there on occasion. Mrdux caught one when we were getting ready to leave after our last night time white bass outing.
