Smile What is the best Crappie/ Bass fishing lake you have ever been to ?

What is the best Bass/ Crappie fishing lake you have ever been to ? Why is it the best ? what makes it good ?

    My choices

Lake guntersville, in Alabama (Bass Fishing). The lake is very scenic, and has a good amount of grass.

Kentucky Lake (Crappie) I have always enjoyed fishing for crappie on KY Lake, I always enjoyed ledge fishing, and finding underwater humps, and shell mounds that hold fish.
I live 10 miles from the 160,000 acre Kentucky Lake, and the 57,000 acre Barkley Lake is within 25 miles of my house. I live 10 miles from 220,000 acres of Water.

Have been to the chain lakes of Harris in Flordia, there are lot of crappie there but it is no match for Gunterville. Gunterville has the biggest crappie ever seen. I know Kentucky is a good place but yet to make it there and also would like to visit Lake Weiss. There so many good lakes, would love to be able to fish them.:D

Alabama is a great fishing state, I think Alabama has over 500,000 acres of public lakes.

I have been to Pickwick, Wilson, Wheeler, and Lake Guntersville, in Alabama. They are all good lakes, if you go to the right places.

I would like to try Lake Grenada in Mississippi. They usually catch several crappie over 3 pounds every year out of Lake Grenada.

I would also like to go up to Minnesota, or Canada for smallmouth bass.

People say you can catch over 100 smallmouth per day up there.

Would have to say for the numbers of crappie - Cypress Springs Lake, Texas- good size too
Largest crappie - Grenada Lake, Miss.
Overall good crappie fishing - Guntersville, Al

    Largemouth Bass - KY Lake
    Smallmouth Bass - Lake Erie
    Crappie - Weiss Lake
    Gills - KY Lake

Love KY for crappie but Weiss Lake beats it for me every year when I look at the average amount of fish per day and average size of the fish. I have caught more largemouth bass on KY Lake then anywhere so I have to go with it. Smallmouth fishing is Erie for sure. Fish average three to four pounds and I catch just as many as on past trips to Ontario for a heck of a lot less money. And finally the gills is a no brainer with all the gills we caught this year. Reelfoot is a little league lake compaired to KY Lake on size and amount of gills in my opinion.

I've been to Weiss twice and really didn't hit it right either time weather wise. Caught some fish, but nothing like what you see some other's post. For me, as far as numbers and size go, I'll pick Kentucky Lake.

I do plan on hitting Sardis or Grenada some time in the near future.

And to answer the questions, as they're put : (where I've "been to")

The best Crappie lake would be Lake Barkley (followed by Watts Bar Reservoir, then Weiss Lake, then Herrington Lake) Barkley has given up the most of the biggest Crappie I've ever caught ... just ounces below 3lbs. It's "good" because of the shallow bays, stump fields, & buck brush.

The best LM Bass lake would be Herrington (followed by Cumberland, then Cave Run) ... Herrington has given up (to me) more LMB than any other lake, probably because I fished it for LMB more than any other lake :p What makes it good is: deep rocky banks, fertile waters, plenty of baitfish available.

The best SM Bass lake would be Watts Bar (followed by Lake Cumberland, then Cave Run) ... since I've caught more 4lb SMB from WB, than any other lake I've fished (even though most came when I "wasn't" SMB fishing :D but actually Crappie fishing) Watts Bar is a good SMB lake, because of the rocky structure (shale banks), good forage, plenty of deep water, & current.

Of course, those are just the one's I've "been to" ... and I don't get around that much :D
