Cool USCG safety broadcast for the Cumberland River

I got off 1 boat below Cairo this morning and am now on 1 above Louisville. Just before I got off we got an unschedualed marine broadcast stating that the USCG Captain of the Port had established a "Safety Zone" between mile 0 and mile 300 and something. This safety zone is closed to all rec. traffic untill further notice. I knew there were several folks planning trips so I called Cane Pole and asked him to make the post on the main board while I was inroute to the boat I'm on now.

Now with that said I don't believe that includes the bays but I could be wrong. You can google the USCG in Louisville and get a number to call and find out. If I get a chance I'll call and find out.

True just read it on the coast guard web site. Pics look really bad saw some from Clarksville on facebook two rivers mall under water and quarry there is filling from river overflow. Some arial pictures made Chatum look like rocks in a creek. Looks like we are in for a long couple of weeks.

Well, no need in us planning a return trip anytime soon.

    From the USCG's web site:

"NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Cumberland River at mile marker 313.6 to mile marker 0 will be closed to all recreational boaters as a result of high water.

The Cumberland River is expected to crest approximately 13-feet over flood level and remain high into Wednesday. All waterfront facilities along the Cumberland River are unable to operate due to dock areas being covered with several feet of water. River traffic has halted due to drift, high water and lock closures. Fleet boats are maintaining fleeting areas, and there are currently no barges adrift.

Coast Guard personnel are participating in river industry conference calls and working directly with industry representatives to share information, assess risk and plan recovery operations."
