    Default Ky Lake Report

Went fishin yesterday and got my 20 but it took all day. Caught mostly black and white males in 6-8 fow. Their tales were beat up and bloody. Lost a lot a fish at the boat. It was a very frustrating day. The beds are loaded with fish but all they would do is swat at the bait and when you do hook'em it's not usually a very good hook set so my best guess is that they are into the spawn and don't want to mess with anything except makin babies. I started out spider riggin and caught lots of little fish but was also missing a lot of hits so I switched to vertical jigging to see what was going on. That's when I found out that the bigger fish are mostly swatting at it or picking it up to carry it out of the bed.

We are heading to Blood River next Saturday for a week, do think we will be to late to catch them in the stake beds. At least you got your limit. Tight lines and good luck.

I think its just starting for the whites. The blacks are probably in full spawn by now but its gonna just get better for the next two weeks.

Went to Big Bear yesterday morning and this morning. 15 sows yesterday, lost a lot of fish as well. 20 this morning, not as big and did not lose as many. Only one black Sat, 3 blacks today. They were biting light but most of them would run once hooked.

    12'-15' close to bottom.

Friday I tried an old hole and probably had 40 fish but only 3 keepers. I went somewhere new yesterday and had 9 really nice fish but was just prospecting with the spider rig. Mostly whites on Friday and mostly blacks yesterday.

The fish were there but like you said, they didn't really seem interested. I may have had more by vertical jigging the structure but I was mainly just out burning battery and looking.

I went out today to give the bluegill and redears a go and didn't talk to anyone that was catching anything, including one guide. I did talk to one boat that had talked to another that said they had 30 before the fog burned off this morning but as soon as that happened, they didn't catch another fish.

The old man and i were in jonathan thurs, fri, sat... wind, wind, wind.. had 10 keepers thursday, 31 on friday caught 20 of them from 330 to 530 that eve, then 14 yesterday, went to the shallows again 6 to 8 foot of water where we got into them on friday eve on saturday morning where we caught 10 keepers... went back that eve thinking it was on.. we caught 2 shorts and fished it a long time... moved out to 12 to 14 foot of water and found 4 keepers... we probably had 30 to 40 shorts on the trip... same thing on spider rigging missed a lot of bites and the wind didnt help... caught most on slip bobbers with handtied 1/16 ounce red head, white and chartruese, pink and chartruese wasnt bad either tipped with a minnow, tossed with a slow retrieve... we did head out to the mouth of jonathan and hit some ledges with brush.. caught some whites but man that wind was brutal... man were we getting rocked by the bass boats on saturday, we were in a no wake in a bay for a while and they stormed in there driving probably 200 to 300 yards past the buoy... heard there was a local bass tourney in jonathan.. we had a good time as usual, but 3 days in that wind will where a fellar out...
