Haven't heard anything positive about Cedar Creek, yet. Don't fish Wilgreen, so I can't help you there.
Here's a post that you may find interesting : http://www.crappie.com/crappie/kentu...venture-2.html ... now, forget everything else I said in the post, and concentrate on these two things : date of post ... pictures of "where" we were fishing. That day was incredible, to me :p ... for the simple fact that we happened to be there on the day that it seemed like every Crappie in the lake was up in the sticks, and in gin clear water of no more than three feet in depth. We literally did "site fish" :D .... just looking around in the submerged tree limbs, until we spotted a Crappie, then dangling a jig right in front of them. Rarely did they not come up and grab it .... regardless of color :p
Now, I know that that date is from two yrs ago ... and still a month off from this years matching timeframe. But, consider this ... up until that trip, most of my Cedar Creek Crappie catches had occurred one to two weeks prior to that timeframe, and I had been catching them in 4-6ft of water & farther out from the bank. Up until that trip with Fred, I thought I was hitting them during the spawn. And I may have been ... but, that trip showed me that they "can" & "will" move much shallower. Fred & I did try some spots that were deeper, ones that I had had success on before ... but, the fish weren't there. They were up in the shallows, around sunken wood cover, back in the pockets and along the banks (see pics in link).
Best tactics I've come across for Cedar Creek ... is using a 1/32 - 1/16oz jighead (weedless) with a 1.5" tube - casting wood cover, with a slow & steady retrieve. Casting/trolling 1/16oz marabou Roadrunners along the outer edges of standing trees, in between standing trees, or over top of submerged wood, is also a good method. And you don't always get that "thump" (feel) or "tic" in your line (see) .... alot of times you feel like you're dragging your jig along a rough surface, or the line will start moving off to the side. Those ARE hits .... set the hook !!![]()
