    Default Long-lineing...

I was wanting to figure out how to lone line troll this fall and was wondering if the setup I have would work. Ive never tried longlineing but have spider rigged w/ success this spring. Also, I use 11 ft rods for spider rigging but was wondering whether to use short 6 ft rods for this kind of fishing, because I have them also. I have it setup so I can use either the big motor or the trolling motor but its looks like longlineing is a two man job if you use the trolling motor because the rods are further away, or ur faster than jack flash to catch a bite. I prob need a trolling plate to. Here is a pic of my setup. Any advice.
    Thanks,

I almost only long line troll and I run six poles out front and six in the back. Up front with me I run two 14 footers, two 12 footers, and two 10 footers. In the back I run anything I got left but most are in the 7 to 6 foot range. My 14 footers will out catch the rest of the boat almost always, but even if my other poles are catching more then the 14 footersm the front usually does better. I was told a long time ago by the guy who taught me how to do it that as the boat passes over the crappie they shy away from the boat and as the boat passes over they tail back in behind the baot. That swaying awy from the boat explains why my long poles catch more then any of the other poles. Wind is the big killer because control is a must or you will be tangled all day long. Slow, slow and slower is best but it is a great way to catch fish. There is nothing like pulling in a 2 pounder while trolling with a 14 foot pole. I have also heard that long lining is not the way to go during fall. They say the fish are bunched up tight to cover and that spider jigging is better. That is something I have no clue if they are right or not.

I think your boat should be fine. Use your TM for power and a GPS to track your speed. Most of the time you'll want to be somewhere between .5 and 1.5 mph.

Good luck getting that big buck. I'd like an appointment to meet him this fall @ 20 yards from my tree stand.
