Spent the weekend at Melvern and came up with a whole lot of nothing. Worked brush from 12 to 30 ft and couldn't buy a bite. Tried up shallow but kept getting pushed off by "bass fishermen". Gave up on fighting the inconsiderate and headed out for the channel breaks. Saw a lot of fish on the HDS but couldnt entice a bite.
About to give up on Melvern and head to Coffey County or Pomona.
Don't Move a Mussel!!Clean, Drain and Dry EVERY TIME, ON EVERY BODY OF WATER!!

Try fishing the breaks guys, its working everywhere else and has always been good at Melvern this time of year![]()
Thanks in advance for any advice. When you guys say fish the breaks, what do you mean?
A break is a term used to discribe a change in the bottom depth or a contour change. Often in the fall crappie seem to use breaks as a structure element and relate to a specific depth change.
Thanks for the feedback. Thinking of fishing melvern on Sunday for crappie or walleye. Sounds like a challenge based on the feedback.
Any words of advice in terms of locations and or tactics.
Thinking of drifting with jig/minnows in areas where the spawn in the spring?
Heard some crappie caught in coves over brush today 20/25 foot of water 3rd hand report so not sure of truth or not
Thanks for the information. Hopefully I can find them!
