Mon hit the water around 0800, fished on brush next to river channel brush 20 ft. Caught a few fish, tried strolling along channel break no joy there.. Moved to different spot brush on channel break shallow side 15 deep side 30 ft brush is stack on the drop. Caught a dozen keepers and about 2 dozen throw backs. Fish stopped biting after about hour and half, pulled up and tried different piles on channel breaks caught a few more shorts and two keepers. Went back and tried the hotspot again but nothing was chewing. Finally pulled up and went home. We had 23 keepers we cleaned. Not great but the best we have done at Melvern in ages.
Tue could not get out until after 1200. Hit the Hotspot and started catching fish right off. Boated about 5 keepers and a number of shorts. Bite lasted only a short while and they just quit, moved or something. Could still see fish on the HD but would not bite anything we threw at them. Moved on to some more channel breaks caught a few more here and there nothing concentrated seemed to have to move around from pile to pile mostly this day fish just off the piles when they bit. Did not catch any over the wood. Cleaned 10 again not great but nice.
Most fish caught on a 2 inch wht/char tube jig, 1/4 oz orange head. On 4lb test line. A few caught on black and chart. tube.

Nice job! It is nice to hear a good report on my favorite Ks. lake.Never have used 4lb. test with a 1/4 oz. jig on brushpiles. How many jigs did you lose? I prefer braid but if 4lb. test works better may give it a try.
Sounds like you had fun and found some fish also. Great job, been along time since I have fished Melvern, I need to get up there sometime, nice lake.
Thanks for the report! I wont get out there for a while yet with deer season going on. Killed a nice 9 point 255 lb buck last night and now looking for a nice fat doe to put in the freezer!
Keep the reports coming! I plan to get out as soon as it warms up and I put one more deer in the freezer.
Don't Move a Mussel!!Clean, Drain and Dry EVERY TIME, ON EVERY BODY OF WATER!!
I used to use braid but one of my fishing partners only uses Yozuri 4lb smoke colored, when the Melvern became clear, he started outfishing me by a large margin. I switched to the Yozuri and started beating him again. The Yozuri line has a avg break point at close to 8 lb. according to the manufacture details. The full name is Yo-Zuri Hybrid it is a fluorocarbon-nylon polymer, tough stuff. Yeah lose some jigs but keep a thumper handy so get most out.
Where are you purchasing the line?
Have you tried the ultra soft? Do you use a line conditioner?
