Minnows

My local bait shop sells medium shiners for $5.45 per quarter lb. All bait shops I know of in NE Okla sell minnows by the lb. Seems like a fair deal to me. Sometimes a few extra get dumped in the container during the weighing process, but I'm sure I have never been shorted on the weight!

also keep in mind they have a large amount of loss (dead) minnows that goes into the cost. I wish i would find a place around here to buy them by the pound. Not sure how a reciept would work if i filled the coi pond with them and used them. I only wish i would get a fair count. but that being said it is getting very hard to buy them around wichita. (2 places year round) (3 in the summer) or maybe a place that opens before 8am on the weekend would be nice. Of course i wouldnt want to be the one running the store so i quessi shouldnt complain to much either.

Outback tackle in Derby opens at 7am both Friday and Saturday. I still get my minnows from zeiners. Been going there since I could walk with my dad, they've always been good to me.

Bought 1lb of minnows at lake side convince store at the Glen for 18.50 I assume they made a profit on this sale with overhead and every thing else. Okay here in Eastern Ks. it is 3.00 dollars a dozen almost exclusive.

1lb of medium minnow is about 200. *(according to the guy dipping my pound and it was a bunch of minnows) (kept them alive and fished with them for a month) Ten dozen at 3 is 30 bucks for 120. Do the math either the convince store is loosing money on minnows or we are paying a lot for minnows here. Just does not add up.

Well now everyone knows where to buy em and get a good deal. The market will adjust if you guys keep going out west to get your minnows. I would like to do business with some of you cause i know i would get a "good deal". How bout someone selling me a cow and throwin in the calf or selling me a few thousand bushel of beans and corn, of course i know whoever sold em would double or triple the weight so i could get a good deal. We are all entitled to get more than what the norm is aren't we??

Not sure I understand your point Ima. Inconsistancy in the minnow count is what always drives this conversation. The expectation is that in the past say for several years I go to store X and I order 3 dozen I get 3 big scoops of minnows which greatly exceeds 36 and now when I go to store X I get far less. I have been frustrated and I understand why others would be as well so I don't understand the sarcastic comment on finding the good deal. You would be foolish not to right? I imagine the local convienience\bait shops are not big revenue generators so a well run business is obviolsy going to maximixe their profits to balance point and when the options are limited they have somewhat of a captive audience. Nothing wrong with that either. If we have no other choices then by God we have the freedom to complain about it and grumble with other like minded people. I don't think anyone here making conversation is actually expecting someone will suddenly take up selling them by weight even though it might make for happier customers.

You say exactly what i'm talking about. In retail sales there is a lot more to it than just price. Who cares about consistancy as long as you get what you pay for. If you order a dozen minnows and you get that then you have no complaint in my book. If you only get 11 then raise cain and i would support that. If you get 18 then be happy and continue to patronize that establishment for going above and beyond. To expect every retailer to have a set price and profit is called communism. We live in a free country so we are free to choose how and where we buy widgets. Because someone on here deems it a disaster to pay for 12 of any widget and and expect to get free widgets, then i am merely suggesting that whatever widget they sell then do the same thing. To say my widget is more valuable than yours and you need to give me more but i shouldn't is rediculous. Think about it. You do have a right to complain about it but some of us also have the same right to show the rediculousness and self centered ideas that some are holding. If you don't like the count then go where you like the count, no one is stopping you, but for personal ease we want evereyone to do the same thing.

Your good ole boys club wants to start a rant on the cost of minnows and when the bottom line comes around that you don't have to patronize any business you choose not to and are free to buy at your pleasure that ain't good enough now you want to dictate who sells what for what and if anyone has a differing opinion then it doesn't count, i responded to some questions by the posters I was neither angry or condescending to them, just stated some business facts that they overloooked, you have added nothing of value nor taught anything through all the posts, go back and look at your posts. Your two posts are very shollow opinions if that is what they are. You want the thread killed let the mods kill it it doesn't matter to me, I would like to be PM the reason though.

I have caught a lot more crappie on minnows than I have on widgets
