    Default El Dorado 10/14/12

Made it out to El Dorado yesterday afternoon to fight the north wind which ended up nicely dropping off as the afternoon went by. My dad came out with me and helped me sink a couple cedar trees for Mr. Crappie. Thought we had a pretty good plan, tie the trees to the concrete blocks on shore, run a rope threw the cable and pull them a short distance with the boat to where we want them dropped. Went very smoothly and kept the mess out of my boat, but we now have a new appreciation for the people who sunk brushpiles that we've fished in the past. Pretty hard work and time consuming. Hope they produce some nice fish in the future.

On to fishing, only a couple hours to fish, planned to go look for whites and wipers, plenty of birds all over the lake to help find the fish. Didn't have to high of hopes for catching since we were post front with a north wind, but we decided to stop and try a couple trees for crappie anyways. Started to catch some nice crappie dipping trees 10-12ft down, real real tight to the timber. I was smoking my dad until he brought a hog up to the surface. After I struggled to get the net loose I boated his 15.5in crappie. His new personal best for El Dorado. Been trying to make a point to keep the net very handy, but when it's stuck you're bound to catch more big fish. Kept dipping trees, found a several more that would play. Only a couple dinks but ended up with about 10 for about 2hr of fishing. A lot of the crappie had big-ole bellies on them, definitely not missing any meals, getting ready for winter.

Not much activity on the lake, think we only saw one other boat. Matches the activity and reports on this forum. Everyone must be watching football Sunday afternoons.

I would have loved to gone out fishing yesterday but having boat issues again!! Good job on catching some fish and on creating some habitat.

    Nice Job Tim,

Craig and I went out on El Dorado Friday night and caught a few in brush. He also hooked up with something big but didn't get it out of the pile. The thunder and that thing called voltage from the sky ran us off.. We did get to use the HDS Touch and it works GREAT Everyone... Hope to try it again this week.

Sounds like a great time and an eventful one as well. Dumping trees is a lot of work. I've done it in years past and it is very labor and time consuming, but well worth it. Keep up the good work!

Hey Tim, congratulations on becoming a landlord. It is both time consuming and hard work, which will drive the secrecy of their location. On the other hand, they really do get easier, after each time you get better. Then, when you sink that 300 day/yr pile, it all just comes together. Good job

How does the HDS Touch do with, fingerprints, smudges and water spots on the screen on a sunny day, or is it to early to tell. I try to keep fingers off the screen of my graph for that reason.

No prob with the fingerprints. Just don't have chicken on your hands when you touch it... As far as water spots, a dry boat will keep them away. It did rain on us Friday night and the unit work just fine. The screens don't smudge like the older units as they have a different screen on them. I don't know about anyone else, but I clean my HDS all the time. I will do the same with the touches.....

    Hey Shane,
What do you use to clean your screens?
