Tried some trees but man was it windy, caught no crappie, 1 white and 1-5 inch walleye. Too windy I guess.

Take your long rod and walk up the Waki or Rock. I've seen guys pack their catch out in a game vest when the walk was long. Boat control is critical when catching crappies

Good idea crappiedoc, on windy days, there will be a good place to fish.

Heck with the rivers, find a good break out of the wind and work it, the crappie will be there hugging the bottom

I was wondering if it was time to hit them rocky breaks. Strolling with some twisters will put fish in the boat this time of year.

Ah c'mon fD, I know you don't like the rivers and creeks much, but brother there's gold in them there creeks/rivers. Those rivers are low and clear, got them fish "holed" up and kinda easy to find and pattern right now. Those windy, chilly days can wear on a man's soul, I'm a cable steer guy, sometimes flying the helicopter can be tough. Whereas, holding that 10' or 12' rod out there dippin the bank and brush can find a guy well rewarded. Interesting thing is, I do pretty good on nice crappies in a foot of water and less this time of year, holding on a stick or branch even. Sometimes, even more or have a little string of spots and typewriter the bank back and forth. Gas is much cheaper too. Anyway, I hope you all find some fish

Hey Doc, does this hold true for the lakes as well? I did not know they would be up that shallow anytime other than during the spawn.

Sure, why wouldn't it? I see you posted on Ksbuckeye thread, it sure sounded eerily similar now doesn't it. Or, how about my post on Milford was slow this morning? I had to trim my motor up out of the water to keep it out of the rocks. I was WATCHING them come up and swipe those baitfish. Yes, that's right, surfacing crappie. I've watched it other places also. If you want to know what it looks like, float off a dead minnow and watch, if they're there and your stealthy you'll see what I mean. I remember the minnow thing from when I was a kid, I'm 45 now and it took me that long to associate the two. I watched it last night on the river, sometimes all you'll see are lots of flashes just under the surface. When they come out to play, it's game on. Are you going to see this sitting on a deep brush pile? NO. This will only happen shallow, and yes I've seen it on the lake. You know the end of the rainbow is over you when you're watching this, I promise.

I know that last fall I was picking up crappie up in the shallow water off fallen trees in Geary State Fishing Lake.

^^I did just this yesterday afternoon again with my neighbor, POP, it blew his mind. He kept wanting to fish deeper, and I started catching them in 1' of water. Sometimes under a 6" float, occasionally I would set it down a bit deeper. We kept half a bucket of friers, just that tasty, goodness size, there were a few maybe 12", but they were all thick in the back.
