I have caught a couple/few in the 15" class, but the "fattest" was still only like 1.8# on my digital scale. I will probably need to get out to some other lakes to break the 2# mark. My home lake is known for large numers of skinny crappie. But they fry up ok.:ThumbsUp
FYI Kansas state white crappie record is 17 1/2" , 4.005 pounds
Hopefully none of you guys cooked up a new state record slab.
My largest was 17" caught last year in May at Clinton on jig and minnow. Unfortunately the photo on my phone is at the bottom of Clinton Lake in 18 FOW
It's interesting the size/weight ratios. I caught a 19-3/8" White crappie in 2001 that went a hair under 4#. It was that hair that beat me in our local fishing contest. His fish was 1/16" bigger and weighed 4.04# white crappie, both fish were fried up crispy. Both of these came from Kirwin, on the spawn.
I caught a blackie at Glen in the 90's that was 18.5" and hardly managed 2.5#, it was skinny. My son caught a 15-1/4" whitey at Milford ice fishing that got stuck in a 6" hole, it was 3# and a football of a specimen. It's on his wall.
I've caught lots of 17"-18" crappie, and a lot of them though big sideways, turn 'em vertical and all you can see is the head. In 2009 Glen was as close to Grenada as it could be. We had over 50 crappies that fall go 18". In 2010, we had one day that we caught 5 that were 18" and never did catch anymore again, and haven't since. Every one of them came from the outlet grates fishing flukes for walleyes with 500cfs being released
Biggest one I've landed was a 16.5in crappie, a good 15yrs ago from the Boy Scout (QSR) lake down by Sedan. Caught her casting to brushpiles from the shore in February. If I remember correctly, I called in sick to work that weekend to go down there. :) Man I miss fishing that lake. :(
WOW!i knew you guys would play, that is what i was hoping for,GREAT report bro!guys like you get me all FIRED UP!thank you!
great report thanks! 2 ? are you a pro? and what is a fluke?
Pro :Rofl:Rofl Not me, I suffer from ADFD. I used to fish 300+ days a year, anybody can rack up numbers doing that. I was laid off when I was young for explaining my eye problems to my boss. He didn't like the statement about not seeing my way to work when the fish were biting.
Zoom Super Fluke Jr's or the Fluke, some reproductions are called jerk minnows. I used them originally for walleye, just kept catching them big crappies on them too. In all fairness, I do well with Panfish Assassins also. If I see lots of little "river minnows" I like the little baits, if there's lots of shad, then the bigger baits. Whatever they'll take, I'll keep feeding it to them. :ThumbsUp
