Needed to get out of the wind yesterday and CG was just the place. I spent around 9 hrs fishing for a handful of crappie banghead. I went up and down that creek fishing shallow, then the ends of the laydowns, and finally just dug right in. Graph showed fish suspended over the channel, just a bunch of whites. I found bait stacked in an area and that is where the crappie were, but being on a quest I searched for more. As I moved along I noticed that laydowns that were fishless were Walnut trees, and the crappie came from brush with a roof on it in 5'. There were carp and buffalo everywhere, waiting for a mulberry to drop into the water. So I obliged a couple times, shaking the tree the berries would drop and the water would boil from feeding suckers. I did see a log roll over and swim away, one big ole flathead. But, for the most part, evidently I was there working on my tan. Slow day, BUT the wind was never a factor.
On the flip, be careful if you go. The locust trees are thorny and looking to stick you and the limb-lines are everywhere.
All lakes raise a foot when I step in the boat
