The piles were hot! Fished from 4-7:30 pm and caught about 35 over 10" and probably 3-4 times that many shorts. It was drop a minnow down and pull a crappie out! They were doing the tic-tic-tug and if you didn't let 'em take it you'd just lose a minner. Didn't matter at all whether the minnow was dead, alive, stepped on, or dried up from lying on the boat floor. Managed to catch 7 crappie off one dead minner before he fell apart. I tried jigs and they sure seemed to thump it hard, but couldn't hardly get a hook set; seemed to be grabbing just the tails. Anybody got any tips on how to hook up when they are biting like that?

Only fished three piles; one in 17-18 fow, one in 12-14 fow, and one in 10-11 fow. The shallowest pile was by far the best - don't know why- could have been the depth, location, or lack of fishing pressure. About 6:00 the fish seemed to come up in the water column and sit at the top of the pile - that was fun - didn't have to waste time reeling, they were just 5-6 ft down.

Just got back.My 2 daughters and I caught alot of short fish this morning with about 12-15 keepers.However, did not get on the water until 8:30 a.m. due to alot of
preteen drama.We quit around 11:30 due to heat.Good job Lucky!Oh we released all fishes.

Excellent report! I'm getting the summer fever now. I may need to go out this weekend. Thinking about getting on the water at the break of dawn and leaving at 10:00am before it gets dangerous out there.

Well I sure don't know what my problem is cause I went to Melvern today and could only manage 7 keepers and after the clouds went away I could hardly get a bite. Fished piles in 9-18 feet with a drop shot rig and minnows. Congrats Lucky and Purple C ! I always enjoy reports from people who actually know how to catch fish....somebody needs to learn me how....maybe it's the alzihmers.
