    Default The 'Glen' 6/13, 14th & 15th

This report comes late for several reasons. Yes, the fishing was GREAT & we caught a lot of quality fish. I love this,,,, that's the problem. I wanna keep this going,,,on & on & on & on. The '92/'93 winter fishing at Perry couldn't have been better or easier. 100's of boats out every weekend not to mention thru the week,,, all catching limits of 'quality' fish. Heard of some keeping,,, or bragging about keeping,,, 1000's of crappies. I can believe this as I caught a limit in just 3 hours never leaving the same spot. The flood of '93 raised the levels to records. Crappie fishing never was the same. A lot of fishers said "The 'crappies' got flushed out". I wonder???? This was when Ned Kehde & me got a petition started to lower the creel limits. We got over 5000 signatures agreeing that a lower limit was needed. 5 lakes now has a 20 fish limit. Perry has recovered, some what, with the help of 'shallow cover' also added. Does the lower limit work? I think so, but 1 fisher(retired, local) keeping 20 fish, 3 days a week or, 1 weekend fisher keeping 50 in 1 day seems to be the same. Just keeping 11 to 14 inchers throwing back the bigger ones so the next fisher can keep it seems silly. What ta do???? I want the bestThumbs UpThumbs Up of both worlds,,, large fishHands ClappingHands Clapping & lots of dem. I'll still support the lower creelsThumbs Up in my boat! Now back to the 'Glen'. Ramps are there but no loadingDoh docks. Lots of dust or mud to Schones & Walnut. Parking?RoflRoflRofl Duck weed on the surface west. Bright colors in the flooded timber best but lake is falling, so depths change daily. Home lakes for a while as I'll let the 'Glen' fish take a breakRoflRofl <*)}}}><

Chatt, I think you've got an excellent topic. I support the 50 fish limit, however I also believe that 50 fish more than 1 or 2 times a month is commercial fishing to be short and honest. That's just to much fish for a family to consume in that time period, I truly understand the fish-fry scenario or church socials, which is my reasoning for 50 fish creels. But stocking the neighborhood and every cousin down to 5th or 6th is ridiculous or 'bartering' for gas money to feed an addiction also fuels this situation. The simple truth is everything that lives is greedy. Watch the birds and animals, even fish, it's genetically bred into everything. Man has the ability to reason and understand this, except for your neighbor who doesn't have to clean the fish or even spend the time getting them. IMO I think education and habitat are crucial to ascertain the goals that you've described. Also, there are some crappie 'factories' here in KS that production has been reallocated for other goals, to quinch a different thirst. Crappie are native and very adaptive, and in the right conditions they can even be 'farmed', which is what is happening right now at Glen. That shoreline structure that grew in 5-10 years ago is deteriorating quickly and needs to be replaced for this cycle to continue. All of our lakes would benefit from shallow structure, it would turn every lake into a Elder festival. If you build it, they will come. IMO is there really any such thing as an illegal brush pile?
All lakes raise a foot when I step in the boat
