I was at Glen on Saturday. I don't mind OS fisherman if they treat the resource and people with respect. We were sitting on a spot catching a lot of fish. A boat with 4 people troll by a little close, but at a respectable distance. They catch one and watch us catch a bunch. The next thing I know they are going within 20 ft. The more fish we catch the closer they get. We have to quit casting to let them go by. I finally started up the big motor and did circles where we had been fishing to blow it out. I think they got the message. I go to get away from people not have them on my lap. We went and found other fish.

Hey Springhill - I contacted Scott this past winter because I was very concerned about the high creel limits but I got the same song and dance. It's tough for me to be too upset about people wanting to fish a nice fishery though. Those communities need the tourism to help survive. I just wish the creel limits were more strict. It's not just the out of staters but I've seen Kansans keeping everything when I go. Here's something interesting. Last year, when everyone was catching nothing but big crappie at Glen, there were only few and far between this year. Where did they go? I suspect the fishing pressure did them in but I was told there are other factors involved. I'm not a marine biologist, but my common sense says that people keeping all the big crappie was the biggest culprit. I fished the same areas as I usually do and nothing was like last year. (It was still great fishing) but why didnt I catch at least 1 fish bigger than year before? Just wondering.

You know, I dont have a problem at all which state someone if from. If they pay their license fee and stay within the laws and respect others I am 100% fine with that. I still don't see why anyone needs 50 crappie per person with no size limit. Now the question would be if the limit was 30 and it had to be 10 inches would the same number of people still come and fish? I understand the tourism vs home resourse debate and it is what it is. I still have a major problem with the leasing of land for deer hunting to out of state hunters for tourism but that is for a different time and place. I just don't like it when resources are being over used and in some cases abused and it makes it even worse when the state is reactive instead of proactive. Crappie are going to die, they only live so long we know this but at what point is the over harvest of a great fishery ok or can it be managed better to last longer is the real question.

yeah i live in a small town try to support the local merchants i was out at glenn 3 times last year pull in to the cleaning house 4 guys big boat 30 ft pull trailer 100 or 120 gal stock tank in back of truck 2 80 or 100 gt coolers full of fish how much did they spend in the local economy?

I would like to see a 25 fish limit during the month of May for sure. 50 is just insane. As far as where did the big crappie go??? Fish deeper. I've been catching some real big ones while walleye fishing. Crappiedoc, did your friend from WY with the motor home fish Kirwin in 2002 &03 ? I might have met and fished with them.

Alright, I'm a nebraska guy too! I'll admit it but I did live 1/2 my life in KS and my dad helped build the Glen! I was @ Glen 2 weeks ago hitting the crappies and I did see alot of OS trailers in the lots but we fished from bank with a buddy from Russell. If it makes you feel better, we only kept 14 nice ones and I seen at least 10 guys all from KS that had limits and a majority of the crappie looked smaller than 10". If I had my choice, I would do all my fishing in KS. If I can talk my wife into moving back south, it might just happen!!!!

Duramax, no I don't think so, on Mem and Labor day wkends he picks up his kids from the ex and takes them on vacation. He's a former PWT fisher gone traitor, now he's a green carp fisherman in TX as well as Redfish, more $$ down south he says. Back on topic, does anybody remember Glen in the latter 90's, tough to buy a crappie 97 on. Yes there are KS anglers filling freezers up there as well as the OS. My biggest problem is the boating ethics and I'm sorry to say every single time I've noticed the NB preceding the numbers on the hull, it's very upsetting to watch the things I stated earlier. I wish it were just a few, but unfortunately it's the opposite. And Duramax, your earlier statement is what the NB need to do. I'm sorry that their waters are so mis-managed, sounds like some voter turnout is needed. KDWP does a good job for us and them, I don't agree with everything, but I guess the punishment would be to make us fish our northern neighbor's water. I heard that from a SD angler a few years ago stated southern neighbor by the way. Glen is not a Fed or COE lake, it's a BOR like all the western KS lakes owned and managed by the State of KS, it's also a uncompleted project. My thing here is we'll share if you do too, your not always the next in line because of your more expensive out of state license. Be a good steward, please!!!

Kansas should standerdize the length and possesion limits. 20 and must be ten inchs. I fish Melvern alot and I know a few of the locals that go out almost every day and catch a limit and keep them, that is a lot of fish in a week, me if I happen to catch a limit one day I will catch and release for the next couple but that is just me.
