Finally fished Melvern June 1-4

Spent the first half of this last week at a state park cabin at Melvern with my wife and kids fishing and playing around. Fished quite a bit but spent a lot of time playing at the beach, shoreline, and playground with the kids. Meet walleyecrazy out there in his boat on Monday and helped us out with some walleye fishing (Thanks Nick, I appreciate it). Walleye weren’t that interested in playing that day, we caught a couple and Nick found two keepers. Tried walleye fishing a couple more times without much luck. We also took some time to find some brush piles and the crappie, found the brush but no crappie. Plan C was smallies and these cooperated for us quite well and kept everyone entertained. Mainly threw small grubs\worms at rock banks and fished windy shores but stayed out of the whitecaps. My wife was struggling to catch smallies on her spinning rod and the ones she was catching she was hooking in the throat. I gave her my brand new expensive sensitive spinning rod which she then proceeds to out fish me and catch bigger fish. She ended up using it the rest of the trip and had several 17in smallies and a bunch in the 15-16 in range. The smallies were biting very light, most the time it felt like a tiny bluegill peck or you hit a rock. She is now convinced that nice rods and reels help catch more fish. Guess this is the approval for me to buy her\me another fishing pole.
