Default Lemonade out of lemons at Milford 5/18

Well, last night my best little fishing partner said she REALLY wanted to go fishing today. That excitement sometimes lessens overnight, so I was surprised when she shook me out of bed early this morning when everyone else was asleep, handing me my "fishing boots". "Let's go, Daddy," she said. Can't refuse that! We snuck out and left Mommy and baby sister snoozing.

As I wasn't really expecting to go fishing, I hadn't done anything to get the boat recovered from yesterday's fishing with guests. Stuff was everywhere, but we quickly got it ready to travel. At least I had plugged in the batteries last night (more on that later). And with the aeriator running, I was sure the minnows from yesterday were good. Crappies were in trouble. I decided to go to Thunderbird Marina to put in because I wasn't sure how much gas I had, plus we could stop by and eat if we got bored.

So we put in at the marina, and I motored to the back of the cove. On the way, nothing worked. Couldn't get the fish finders on, couldn't get the live well going for the minnows. Started checking the fuses...looked pretty good. Went up front to put the trolling motor down. Let me check it...barely spun at all.. Oh man...I plugged in the boat to the extension cord....didn't plug the extention cord into the house!!!

So we had no power. The minnows were all floating because no aeriator and I didn't know the area very well so I didn't know the depths, etc. Going to be hard to find the crappie. We still tried for about an hour, with no bites at all. We had stopped at Thunderbird quickly on the way in and she got some worms (thought we might find some bluegills around the docks).

Well, we fished around in the very bottom of our last tackle box and found a worm harness. We fixed it up on her pink Zebco and started trolling with the big motor around the bay. We had girl scouts coming up at 1:00, so we didn't have much time. Bang, bang the wipers and walleye started nailing her worms. "NO SKUNK TODAY," she said! We had a really hot hour that finished our day on top!!! (Thank goodness that her little reel held up; nothing too big for her to handle bit!)

Finished the day with Grilled Cheese and fries at Thunderbird Marina! We had a blast together - trying something (trolling worms) that we'd never tried before, instead of giving up and coming home. Daddy had a Great Day!Name: Stella walleye.jpg

Like a god Scout, you made the day work. That little gal is sure a good fishing partner to have and you pulled the day out together. Good going Dad. Keep up the good work and always be prepared. lol Ferdi

Thanks, the whole day turned out fantastic. We finally got in trouble with Mommy because (when putting her to bed) we kept talking, re-telling, and laughing too loud! Brad
