I'm going to put this here because it is about fishing. Trot lines are legal so each to his own but when left unchecked they simply become wanton killers. Found this one at Hillsdale when it wrapped around my trolling motor. No tag, nothing to identify who it belonged to. A nice bass capable of spawning this year is wasted. To whoever owns this line check it daily or take it down

I found 3 big dead flatheads this winter connected to limblines on trees that on the shoreline now because of the low water. They got hooked and stayed tethered to the tree until they starved I suppose. I guess people set them out and are just too lazy to go back and check them? I have no problem with them when properly maintained, but that doesn't seem to happen very often. Found one at Hillsdale last summer with a nice channel cat that was on it so long and had spun so many times it's head was out of the water. Wasn't tagged, getting hot out fast, and I felt bad for the poor fella as he was about to get cooked in the sun and probably spoil before the owners got there (if they were ever going to return) so I unhooked him and turned him loose![]()
Most people are very good at checking the lines, why not lot of work setting them and baiting them. I just do not understand people that go to all that trouble then do not check them.
I guess there is always the case of an emergency that prevent this but they should be a small incidental average.
