Default So a kid came and asked to Deer Hunt....

Back in July a lady I work with, her 16 y/o son came and asked me if he could Deer hunt my land. Kind of looked at him but since I don't really deer hunt much and he's a good kid I told him I wanted to see him shoot. So he shows up the next weekend with a cheap Axis 270 and an even cheaper scope.....and a box of Walmart rounds.

As i have a gun range we set him up with a big target at 100m and I watch him put rounds all over the dirt mound.....target still looking brand new

So I look at his rifle, needs all the copper fouling removed, scope is crap, and the rounds are basic core lok. So we de-copper his barrel, I have a cheaper Nikon scope and 1 piece Millet mount I give him. I have some 25-06 brass I re-size and box of Sierra bullets that have been sitting on my reloading shelf for years (I Collect a lot of reloading items I never use for calibers I don't shoot). Load up some rounds doing load work ups till we get him dialed in and the rifle shooting very well. The whole process he learns to do it all, cleaning, mount, scope, and reloading. Once the load work up is done he loads a couple of boxes himself on my presses. I showed him how but the kid did the work and practiced until he was shooting pretty good.

He actually spent quite a bit of time scouting an area that has always produced but he did the work.

Well tonight it paid off for him. Dropped this big boy in his tracks...Dirt Napped

Happy Kid and I am happy for him. Maybe 50 years from now some scraggly kid will wander up to him and say....

Very nice job of introducing this young guy into a great sport and getting him started on the right foot. These kids are the future for carrying on our outdoor priveledges.

You're a good man KAG. Good job setting a great example for him and teaching him a thing or two. Glad his hard work payed off for him. I guarantee he will be a better person for it - even if just a little bit.
