Default Milford end of July report and PICS

Was gonna try a new to us lake and hit Melvern but my girlfriend and I have been having so much fun at Milford this summer we decided to go back again. Fished Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and the fishing was tougher than 2 weeks prior. Water temps were 76 to start the day and would climb to the low to mid 80s later in the day. Took my Grayline shad tank and cast net and would net shad in the mornings, fill the tank once and be set for the whole day. These things keep shad alive and frisky all day even in the heat. Caught descent numbers of whites, lots of small wipers with around 10 good ones to 5 or 6 lbs, gobs of small channels and blues and 3 walleye...a 24 1/2 in, 27 in, and a 28 in. No big numbers of walleye but quality was excellent. all fish released to swim another day. The 24 1/2 was my girlfriends largest walleye to date in her first yr of fishing, and was caught on a jig and crawler and the 27 and 28 were caught on live shad as was most everything else this trip.Name: IMG_0002.jpg

Nice report and excellent walleye. I have been trying live shad but can't beat the catfish off my line which I am alright with.

Nice job! Would like to know more about your "grayline tank". Do you use salt? We normally do what you do... we put ours in a freezer bag with, with some lake water, and keep them in a cooler with blue ice. Stays fresh for the most part of the day. Firm believer in "fresh shad".

Yes salt is an absolute necessity to keep shad alive and healthy in a tank, don't know why but it vital and I've tried it without and even with cool water, aeration and a filter system they don't last long. Sounds like a lot of salt but the general guideline is 1 cup salt per 10 gallons of water. Needs to be additive free salt [no iodine, anti caking agents, etc.] I use mortons ice cream salt, rock salt. You can buy a product called surelife shad keeper that has the salt and other chemicals to keep them lively but it is expensive and not really needed imo. Google grayline shad tanks for their website. I have the 17 gallon oval tank. They make much larger but this is plenty big for my uses and still takes up plenty of space and weight in the boat, I use an extra deep cycle 12 volt to power the filter and aeration pumps. Can get several full days fishing on a full charge. Pretty expensive setup but makes life easier and shad are lively all day in the insulated tank. Add ice and chlorine remover periodically throughout the hottest days to keep the temp down. With some ingenuity you can make your own tank with filter system and aeration by googling the subject and also plenty of youtube videos.
