    Default Ever eat gar?

Was wasting time and found this video on youtube.
How to Clean and Filet Gar - YouTube

Anybody ever tried gar? Thinking about doing some night fishing after the family goes to sleep. Thinking I might want to give it a try.

Yes when I worked in Louisiana they called them gar balls. They cut the meat between the bones and it left a good 2 inch x 2 inch piece. Pretty tasty and they were a lot of fun to catch. Alligator gars were the species we caught, one was close to 70 lbs. I am sure if you looked up some Cajun recipes you would find something.

I have heard that the easiest way is to steak them then take fillet knife and cut the meat out from skin and bones.

That's the way my dad would do them. He would use a hachcet to steak them out
