I would have to go with the GPS over the DSI if I had to pick one. My GPS is invaluable to me. I often take and extra 30 minutes to an hour while I am on the water and go look for brush and structure and then mark it on my GPS so I can go back and fish it later. Many of the piles I fish are small piles and trying to find them by triangulation from shore landmarks would take a long time. With the GPS I can go right to it and normally find the pile on the first or second pass, throw a buoy and start fishing.
The GPS is also nice if you have one of the updated lake maps as it will show you contours and other features so you can zone in on particular areas when looking for fish or structure. I rely on my GPS more than I do the DSI or Side Scan.
