    Default Big blues in Okalahoma

Left Melvern at 430 headed to Oolagah for some blue cat fishing. Got on the water at 0830 hooked up with a great guy, who guides and had a boat load of Meriden, Ks fishers. So him with his 23 ft wareagle 150 yami, me 165 lowe with 60. Okay outclassed and out gunned. So followed him out to main lake, not bad a first, wind started to blow, 4 ft waves he anchored up just off a shallow hump, wind really howling gust to 25, I tried to set anchors but water coming over bow. Decided to go find something out of wind. Talk to our guide friend on phone he gave us some places out of the wind so we headed there. Fished hard in location he suggested no joy, caught one small blue and one small channel. Very frustrating.

Okay had dinner with Ok guide, great guy, helpful, knowledgeable, catches lots of fish. He had to work his reg job Monday. He gave us some pointers, and location to fish Monday. So away we go Monday Morning after great free breakfast at Best Western in Barts ville. headed to the lake. On advise of our guide friend put in on ramp that was reported as not usable, but since the lake came up two feet since that report, was able to launch boat, saved us 7 mile run up the lake. Okay got to locations guide friend tolds us about. First stop caught three small blues, kept one around 5. Motored up to next spot, caught small fish. Went to next spot, my first fish was 20 lbs. Wow, so baited up again next fish I had 30, then a 20 then 25 then 45. Not a bad 45 minutes of fishing.
awesome then the wind died to calm and everything just stopped. Fun while it lasted

Very nice Blackdog40. I would love to go Bluecat fishing but just can't find the time. Maybe I will make time this year and go to Kaw. I am glad you found fish after making that drive. Great report!

BD40 just thought I would throw in a plug for our local bluecat guide service in Topeka. His name is Ryan Gnage, he is very well experienced and super equipped. In one day at Milford the first of this week his clients caught a total of 30 blues with a 30# being the heaviest. DK
