Default Picking Slabs off a Rock Pile - Milford

Went out today on Milford, not many boats out and was surprised at that. The ramp I put in at over at School Creek is getting close to being unuseable. Pontoons may not be able to use it but I think for any one else it should be good for another couple of weeks....keep the motor up. Been taking lots of photos of the low water areas also, stumps, foundations, and such.

I tried a couple of spots after I launched then I ran to a spot I stumbled on a month or so ago after one of the old farmers told me about. Kind of strange that its in about 16fow, there are a large pile of quarried limestone blocks just piled up, on the electronics you can see the sort of squared edges. Total area about 2x the size of a pick up truck. They are up north on the flats near the creek channel. Must of been dumped there during the building as they are quite a ways from the Rock Quarry. If the water drops another 3 ft they could be a hazard but right now I call it the "Slab Castle". Not huge numbers but really good size fish being pulled off it.

The water temp was 50f and I just kept popping my 1/32 orange and black jig heads with Bobby G Baby Shads up over them and around them. The Watermelon wine & Vegas colors worked pretty good but the they brought the hammer down on the Bluegrass color. I hung one that I lost after playing it and when I pulled the jig up the hook was straightened. I was using fine wire jigs but still.....
I used the net on several because I was afraid I would loose them trying to horse then over the side into the boat. They had thick bodies. Been mostly using Cajun Red #6 test mono on my 12 & 14ft B-n-M poles, tried the power pro yellow braid first but not nearly as many catches as the Cajun Red, I really like this line....its cheap too and thats always a bonus.

I tried using slab bandits and they caught some fish but the Bobby G's were what the wanted. I have been keeping them soaked in craw oil, not sure it helps but I feel better using it. When I did see a boat I just pretended I was Blue Cat fishing....

Anyway it was a really good day..........

Good Report. Glad you caught something on the watermelon wine too. Hope you saved the location so you can get back
to it when the lake fills back up again. Sounds like a good location to catch some fine fish. Great photos and a happy young man.

Good job Dave!! I have been having good luck on the BG baby shad in the bleeding shad color, I too had the same experience straightening out the litewire hooks a couple of times today!

I guess its a trade off on litewire hooks......Arggggggggh. Second time I lost a really really serious pig because of straightening the hook on me. I think it just depends on where you hook them in the mouth as to how easy they straighten. The ones I use are from the guy here on the forum and they are really nice. The black and orange heads have been really good for me when paired with Bluegrass and WmW.

The pearl white BG Baby shade did not produce today and usually its very good color. The bleeding shad color has not produced for me yet but I probably have not given it a fair chance either. No matter I am absolutely sold on the Bobby Garland baits. I ordered some of the BG moglo colors and am wanting to try them out to see if the do well at deeper depths.

Looks like some nice Crappie. I am with you on the BG Baby Shade. I use the a lightwire hook with a orange head and a BG electric chicken baby shade and it works well. I also lost a couple of crappie and a nice white bass today on the lightwire hooks but I got hung up several times today and was able to get it out with out breaking off.

The main advantage of the litewirehooks is you can get hung, many times get the hook and jig back, and keep on fishing. One thing I learned over the years is patience when I have a big fish hooked and use the net. My largest at Lake Talquin (Photogallery laketalquinlodge.com) is 2 Lb 13 Oz........Thanks for the comments on Litewirehooks.

Your jigs are great, Real quality. I like like them so much I just ordered 200 unpainted ones as I am going to paint them the Bluegrass and WmW coloring ......the patience thing .....well it's a work in progress...
