    Default First time at Milford

Some friends and I had a boys weekend out and rented a cabin at Milford this weekend. Got there Friday around 3PM and it was gorgeous out. Decided to get a head start on some shad since I just completed building a DIY shad tank and we were hoping to use some live ones for wiper fishing. Had no luck except one large shad. Put it in the tank and planned to get more early Saturday morning. Still no luck Saturday morning either but the wind came as predicted. Played around close to the State Park only but never really got on any fish. Tried a number of different tactics. Was a rough day. Ended up fishing around the Marina docks yesterday evening with some minnows and jigs and finally at least caught some fish - about 25 crappie but only one over 10". Did also get a 3lb wiper close to bottom on a minnow. Was at least some fish on the end of our lines keeping us from getting skunked. Never got to try for some cats - just ran out of time. Will try for them next trip (hopefully!).

Nice lake and we're not too discouraged. The negative reports seem to start rolling in right before our trip - just our luck. Learned that folks aren't kidding about the brutal Milford wind - it was rough! Might need to pay one of you Milford regulars to show us around next year. State Park cabins were great! Good times even though the fishing wasn't the greatest.

BTW - Shad was alive when we took it out of the DIY tank this morning - yeah!

Of course I don't know any different but I think Milford is a great lake.....

The area you were in is a good area when the winds are mean and ill tempered. If and when you come back shoot me a pm
