Recently bought me a new boat, really enjoying it. Considering getting an additional fish finder for up front, possibly with a trolling motor transducer mount. Want to get one thats not going to break the bank but yet good and reliable. If a trolling motor transducer is not the way to go let me know any alternatives.

I've alway's liked Lowrance locators. If you ever think you may want side scan you might want to invest in the HDS-5 or one of the HDS units.

cnote I do have a garmin 240 locator that was a backup on the dash that is just sitting around now. It's been used very little. It would need a TM ducer, but I would let it go for about a $50 or so.Send me a pm if ya might want it.

With the new Fish finders are out..Lots of guys are wanting to upgrade ..Should be some nice used units out there.
I've always had lowrance...Consider getting a FishFinder / GPS comb..You can mark the spots you find fish / brush,,
    Have fun..

I guess I should have clarified, my new boat already has a color Lowrance with GPS and map chip in it, big upgrade from what I had before. I am just wanting a fish finder to use when I'm up front running the trolling motor. Been looking at the Lowrance Elite 4x DSI, Garmin Echo 150 or 300c, or Lowrance X-4 Pro Sonar. Any opinions greatly appreciated. Thanks Ozark88.

If your looking to network both you'll have to go with another Lowrance. Not sure why noone mentions Humminbird, but I like the 597CI HD DI with a Navionics Gold chip I run on the front. Don't like US2 not being able to do DI or SI and haveing to strap-on. When I'm in the front, I'm vertical fishing, but if you're pitching or casting to cover or structure to the side I could see where sidescan would be cool. Would be nice to have a side scan available if you wanted it, if the back one does SI and your networked you'd have the side scan image just a little behind ya. If your fishing to the side of the boat and you can tell exactely how far that bush or rock pile is off the side and where the fish are sitting around it ya should be good to go. Go to BP or Cabelas and play with um in simulation mode and see what you like.
