    Default CG report

Sending this baby to "off topic"... Sure, I was crappie fishing, but not crappie catching..banghead

Hit Council Grove Saturday morning about 10:30. The wind was murder! Hard to believe I was the only vehicle parked at the ramp and I didn't see any other boats or shore anglers. My plan was to run the rest of last year's fuel out of the boat, but when I rounded the corner out of the cove I realized that Saturday wasn't going to be a great day to drive around the lake! After bouncing my belly and chest off the steering wheel three or four times, I decided I would just fish in the cove where I launched.Rofl

I tried for crappies from 7' all the way to 6", but came up empty. Dippin', strolling, drifting, casting, cranking,,, I ran out of ideas! I missed a couple bobber bites, so I will assume that those were small crappie... Luckily I am happy with anything. Caught a nice 5# flathead, a hefty drum on my dippin' pole, a sub-legal saugeye, and finally a magnificent saugeye on the dippin' pole.

The big saugeye was literally 12" from the bank in probably 12" of water in some brush. I had seen a bunch of carp surfacing around there, and naturally assumed I had snagged a carp until I finally got it near the surface and it spit up a bunch of shad. I still wasn't sure what I had hooked, but I went back and grabbed the net just to be safe. Glad I did! 5.6#, and it had some very fine fillets I don't mind saying!Thumbs Up Mmmmm! Released everything else, which was fine because the saugeye's fillets pretty much filled up it's own bag.

Then the wind switched and I had to crank the TM to 8 to keep me out of the rocks. Then the sky went black and I thought hmmmm, maybe I oughta get outta here...

So the crappie at CG were either deeper than 7', or I am too dumb to catch them. But if you find the wind beating a rocky/brushy bank at CG, there is a good flathead/saugeye bite if you dip the brush with crappie jigs.Rofl I was shocked I didn't catch any white bass, but I was staying out of the worst of the wind.
I am just pullin' your leg.:D

Fished the Grove Friday for 2hrs from the bank.
Not one bite! The shad were spawning most
banks. Could have scooped them up with a
    bucket! Nice saugeye Fish Taxi!
    Thanks Jon
