Need an opinion on trading in an HDS 5

Just got the Cabelas flyer a couple days ago. Saw they are advertising the Lowrance HDS 7 for 599.00. My problem is I just bought an HDS 5 lake insight about 4 months ago for 800.00. What are the chances Cabela's will take my unit back so I can upgrade for 200.00 less. Not trying to scam Cabela's, just mad at myself for deciding to buy the unit 4 months ago. Oh, and I've had it on the water 2 times (I know thats poor, boats been in the shop) so it has no wear. Thanks

Since you asked for opinions I will give you mine. I do not agree with trying to take your unit back to Cabelas. It is now a used unit and trying to return it 4 months after you purchased it would be wrong in my opinion. Someone has to cover that expense and to be honest, doing things like this ends up costing all of us more for everything we buy.
It sucks when we find that we can buy something better several months later but that happens to all of us. If it was me I would try to sell your current unit on ebay or locally and then take that money to buy the new unit.
Whether it was on the water twice or 100 times makes no difference, it is now used electronics and it can not be sold as new again.

Sometimes we just have to suck it up and do what we know is right.

I think $200 of that off was a mail in rebate from Lowrance. You might check with them to see if they would do anything or do a trade out of some sort.

No, I didn't think you were saying that at all! I felt kind of guilty even putting this post up, but my buddy told me to take it back to Cabela's so I thought I'd ask what evevyones opionions here. You gave me your opinion and thats what I was asking for. I will say I did think about doing it until you put that post up about costing everyone.

If you can afford it put the hds5 on the bow and get the hds7 for the console...that would be a good setup and worth the expense ( I say this not having made this electronic upgrade myself...yet...but I know its a coming)

I'll have to stick with the 5. My guestion for you. I am thinking about getting the LSS for this unit. Does it really help?
